Rubin and Safir were viera twins, the only difference being Rubin's red eyes and Safir's blue. From birth, they were inseparable, always playing and helping around the village, or at the flower field they often sneaked away to visit. They each made an earring for the other, Safir making a fiery red for Rubin, and Rubin in turn making a deep blue for Safir. Safir, who was more outgoing, and was the voice for the quieter, shyer Rubin.When they turned thirteen, they learned they were both male—a rarity among viera. According to tradition, they were to be taken and trained by a male wood warden, eventually leading a life of solitude as a wood warden themselves. It was told, "A male viera lives alone and dies alone." Despite this, Rubin and Safir were determined to remain together. When a warden named Solja came to their village, they followed him and began their training under his guidance.Solja became a father figure to them, and they thrived in their roles as wood wardens. Seven years passed in contentment, and they were prepared to spend their lives together in the forest.One day, while patrolling alone, Rubin and Safir discovered a glowing crystal protruding from the ground. Rubin, cautious, suggested they consult Solja, but Safir's curiosity led him to approach the crystal. Overwhelmed by its aether, Safir went berserk and attacked Rubin.Rubin, using his spear, desperately tried defending himself, begging his brother to stop. The fight ended tragically with Rubins spear through Safirs chest. As Safir collapsed, Rubin held him in his arms as panic set in. Safir, with the last of his strength, apologized, urging Rubin not to blame himself and to promise to live on.Through his tears, Rubin promised. As Safir's grip slackened, Rubin wailed in despair.Solja arrived soon after hearing Rubin's cries. Seeing Safir's lifeless body and Rubin’s spear, Solja believed Rubin had betrayed and killed his brother. Filled with rage and sorrow, Solja attacked Rubin but couldn't bring himself to kill him. Instead, he banished Rubin from the forest, branding him "Svikari"—traitor.Devastated, Rubin fled, running for days until he reached a city by the ocean. There, he boarded a ship bound for Limsa Lominsa, determined to honor Safir’s memory. Adopting the name "Knit Bone," after Safir’s favorite flower, comfrey. He set out as an adventurer to keep his promise and find a new purpose.
